| 1. IRU "30-BY-30" Resolution |

The IRU recognises the irreplaceable role played by road transport in today’s economy and its contribution to CO2 emissions, although commercial road transport is only responsible for 3% of total CO2 emissions. Nevertheless, as no economically viable alternative exists apart from oil, the IRU and the whole road transport industry commit to reduce C02 emissions by 30% by 2030 through investments in innovative engines and latest vehicle technologies, focus on driver training and innovative logistic concepts (i.e. ITS).

| 2. The Greener Journey’s campaign |

Greener Journeys is a campaign aimed at encouraging people to get out of their cars and onto buses and coaches; a quick and cost-effective way to reduce carbon emissions.
By switching just one journey in twenty-five we can remove 1 billion car journeys from our roads, and in doing so we’ll see a reduction of 2 million tonnes of CO2. This is the ONE Billion Challenge.

The Doubling project, conducted by the Swedish Public Transport Association, the Swedish Bus and Coach Federation(BR), the Swedish Taxi Association, the Association of Swedish Train Operating Companies, and the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions(SALAR), was started in order to double the use of public transport.
